Mr. Joe Teja, JD, is a partner in Cooley's Litigation Department and is a member of the Patent Counseling & Prosecutionpractice group. He joined the Firm in 2013 and is a resident in the Boston and New York offices. Mr. Teja is an experienced patent attorney with a particular focus in electronics and cleantech. He counsels clients with substantial and complex portfolios in connection with intellectual property protection strategies. Mr. Teja represents clients in a variety of technical areas, including digital image sensors, solar energy-related technologies (photovoltaics), flexible electronics, biomedical imaging, telecommunications business methods, complex event processing, GPS-based intelligent instrumentation, energy demand management, and energy-efficient lighting technologies. He also has significant experience working with academic institutions to protect their intellectual property assets.

 

Mr. Teja's technical experience includes optoelectronic devices and optical communications, as well as several areas of electronics and electrical engineering, including analog and digital circuits, electronic devices, semiconductor materials, design and fabrication, telecommunications, and networks. 

 

Mr. Teja was selected for inclusion in the 2005, 2007, 2008 and 2010-2012 editions of Massachusetts Super Lawyers for his work in intellectual property law.

 

Prior to joining Cooley, Mr. Teja was a partner at Foley & Lardner and Wolf, Greenfield & Sacks, P.C.  Before attending law school, Mr. Teja worked as a researcher and engineer in electronics and optics.  He was an electrical engineer with Rheometrics Incorporated and performed research at Hoechst Celanese Corp., where he co-invented a patented optical waveguide device.

 

Mr. Teja earned his law degree from Suffolk University Law School, his master's degree in electrical engineering and computer science from Massachusetts Institute of Technology, and his bachelor's degree in electrical engineering from Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey.
